There were some health and safety complications that we needed to be careful of before and during the filming of our opener, as long as we follow these we would be safe in our process.
Some of the Health and safety issues were...
- Filming in the car park if and when there were cars around
- Tripping over the equipment, especially the dolly and tripods
- On the top of Cabot Circus Car park with the equipment and weather
- The underground is sometimes a bit dodgy, so we had to go down there when it was less busy and be careful with the equipment and ourselves
- Running up the stairs and across the Car park that I wouldn't trip or fall

Poker scene that didn't work
POKER SCENE FILMING (Went wrong)
We originally planned to do a poker scene instead of the underground scene in our opening film, we planned to film on friday morning in our double lesson. We booked out a room with an oval table in main school but the problem was we didn't organise it all very well.
- We didn't organise extra's to have act in the scene very well and many ended up flaking and not being able to turn up, so without other people it would be useless. Also having technical issues with camera and technology of how we were going to do a continuous shot round the entire table without it looking shaky and hand held.
- The dolly tripod was too low for the camera and we couldn't make it look very good, as well as that the lighting in the room which we wanted to be dark wasn't co-operating very well and was either too light or too dark.
Overall the whole day was a waste of time and the following week we filmed the underground scene, which I think worked better with the other sequences and added to the representations of age, and mise-en-scene better than the poker scene would've.
our scene |
What we had hoped the scene to look like...
CASINO ROYALE
Casino Royale |
- This scene is more stylish and classic poker scene
- Perhaps more high end budget
- More professional and classic
- The acting is more hollywood style than gritty british low budget
ROUNDERS
The final hand poker scene
- This scene is more gritty and low budget
- Would've flowed with our theme better
- Looks more low budget due to the surroundings and what they're wearing
- The acting here is something like we'd want in our film with the characters and they way one is cocky and one is young and portrayed as naive

Thinking about Mise-en-scene 1.2 Props
We needed a list of props for our opener to be the vibe we wanted, the props we used was...
- Fake drugs in a small bag
- Poker chips (before we changed the scene)
- Fur coats / hooded coats
- Bowl for water scene

Thinking about Mise-en-scene 1.1 Costumes
Mise-en-scene is important to the opener as it provides the visuals the audience are going to focus on and be watching, it's key to making the opener look more realistic and for realism, especially with stereotypes and specific character profiles.
Costumes
For the main character's costume we thought about practical footwear, with an all black outfit of a top, skirt and tights, with the dark Dm shoes. The fur coat goes well as it provides a character profile, showing wealth aswell as creating an almost pimp like character, going with the gangster type theme. This can also be used to represent the age, as its teenagers- to young adults it can show a lot of stereotypes for this type of age and gender in the film.
For the 'gang leader' we had them with an old school flip phone, to take the audience back to a late 90's early 2000's vibe. Also showing a fur coat, and gold chain creating the same pimp like character of wealth linking with their personality of a gang leader who 'owns the streets' due to the clothing.
The other people in the underground scene we wanted to be hooded and representing the stereotypical gang profiles.

Filming schedule
We already filmed some shots on the carpark on January 22nd the inset day, but we needed other days to orgainse times with other people and make sure we had props/cameras etc.
- We tried filming the poker scene in school, but the whole scene didn't end up working out well, the people we asked couldn't make it last minute, and the room we wanted to film in didn't work out how we hoped it would.
- The scene didn't all come together well, so we went back to the storyboard and decided to change the scene entirely to a gang meeting scene in the underground.
That one worked out well and we managed to film all the scenes in an afternoon in sixth form (our media double lesson) it actually fitted the opener some what better. We organised it better and had reliable people in it as well as Amy and Tamzin, who were in our group so they could have a go at acting while me and Hannah filmed and shot it.
Note: We ended up being able to finish the filming on the 10th of Feb so we didn't need to film for the 11th.

Starting to plan- Organisation 1.2 Technology
Locations Locations Locations
Thinking about our genre and ideas for the opener we needed to get good locations that would work in what we were thinking to plan. Mindmapping some possible locations we thought about...
-A carpark
-The underground passage
-A corridor
-spiral stairs
-Ariel view for underground shot
-Inside of car park
-The underground passage
-A corridor
-spiral stairs
-Ariel view for underground shot
-Inside of car park
On one of the media lessons and after sixthform we went to photograph those places to get a better idea of what would work and how we'd get it to work with the equipment.
The photos below are of the locations we found and wanted to use in the the opener...

Starting to plan- Organisation 1.1
We set up a group chat on facebook to form and share idea's and thoughts, along with arranging times to film and meet up.
We all arranged to meet up on the inset day of 22nd January to go location looking and possibly start filming for our opener. We arranged to meet at 1pm in cabot circus by Facebook group chat, we got McDonald's before we went out, we also decided on there who would be bringing what with us and props that we needed to use.
Our Questionnaire and Analysis
The questionnaire we wrote out shows questions and people's responses to the genre we want to choose and based around the idea's we want to represent in our opening sequence, as well as a summary of what we were thinking for the opener.
The questions we asked were...
1. What's the last thriller film you watched?
2. How did the film open?
3. What aspects of the film did you enjoy?
4. What do you think would make a good opening sequence to a thriller?
5.What do you think the key components of a thriller are?
6. If you could make your own thriller what would you put in it and why?
7. Do you think flash backs in thrillers are effective and why?
8. What makes a thriller film effective?
9. What do you think the target audience should be for a psychological thriller?
10. What do you think our opening sequence?
We printed off 10 questionnaires and handed them out asking people to answer and fill them out.
Here are some graphs and pie charts based off of our audience feedback, with this information we altered a tiny amount and kept most of it the same.

From this we decided that we definitely wanted to use flashbacks in our film |
Having a 15 age audience would be better for us in filming etc. and we saw that an age 15 would be most suitable |

Our Opening film Storyboard
This was our groups storyboard for our opener film, we have drawn and written down details and images of what the opener should look like.
This is only rough and we know that our ideas are going to change and form into new ideas of scenes we are going to do.
WE UPDATED OR STORY BOARD AFTER WE FINISHED FILMING AND STARTED TO EDIT THE OPENER
Below is the new storyboard we drew and wrote around which reflects our new idea's and way of wanting to edit the opener. It's a lot clearer and esker to reference to.
